After hosting a 15-person Friendsgiving potluck last year, I thought I could host another big dinner party—except this time, I would cook everything myself. Joe wasn’t convinced this was a good idea, but I was ambitious. Nothing was going to stop me.
I love hosting Friendsgiving but realized I’ve never hosted a dinner party earlier in the year. I looked at the calendar to see which holidays could work, then came the idea of spring equinox. Of course! Who doesn’t want to celebrate spring? A fresh start and the beginning of the Astrological New Year. Gone are the days of doom and gloom! We are ready for some sunshine.
A few months later, the clocks turned, and it was time to get serious. I wasn’t sure what to cook. We got some blips of sunny weather, but it wasn’t quite spring yet. In fact, it’s snowing right now as I write this. Classic Canada. Citrus is still in season, so I knew I wanted to serve something with it. The radicchio has been particularly good recently, too, so that was a no-brainer—I could do a fancy salad!
That was all I had up until the week of the dinner party. No real plan, just vibes. Here’s how it all went down.
